But God Will Redeem My Soul / From the Grip of the Grave

Part 2 of Psalm 49 is the turning point of the entire chapter. The ancient sage has already established the hard truth: the wise die, the foolish die, no human fortune can buy redemption from death. Then, with a single word — "But" — the darkness breaks. Everything has been stripped away so that only one reality remains: God alone reaches into Sheol and pulls the soul free.

"But God will redeem my soul from the hand of Sheol, for He will take me — Selah."

"He will take me" is not a distant promise — it is a direct, intimate act of divine rescue. The sage does not simply hope for redemption; he stakes his entire life on it, face to face with death.
