For My Soul Is Full of Troubles | Hebrew and English

Psalm 88 is one of the most honest and difficult psalms in the book. There is almost no comfort in it: a man cries out to the LORD from deep pain, day and night. This first part goes down, step by step, into weariness and darkness.

And yet the psalm gives strength: it does not hide the pain, and whoever is going through hard days will find words here for what they feel.

The verse that gives the song its name, and the verse after it, beat at its heart:

"For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draws near to the grave"

"I am counted with those who go down into the pit: I am as a man that has no strength"

That is: the soul can bear no more sorrow, and others already see him as a man without strength.
