Verse 1
"For the conductor, upon the eighth. A psalm of David."

Verse 2
"Save, Lord, for the faithful one is gone; for the trustworthy have vanished from among human beings."

David feels that truth and faithfulness have become scarce.
Verse 3
"They speak falsehood, each one to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak."

Verse 4
"May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks great boasts."

Verse 5
"Those who said: With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are with us. Who is master over us?"

The tongue is not free from responsibility before God.
Verse 6
"Because of the robbery of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy, now I will arise, says the Lord; I will place in safety the one who longs for it."

"The needy" are those who lack help and protection.
"Groaning" is a cry that rises from pain.
When the Lord says "Now I will arise," He declares that oppression is seen and rescue will come.
Verse 7
"The words of the Lord are pure words, silver refined in a furnace of earth, purified sevenfold."
"Pure words" means words with no lie, trick, or corruption in them.
"Refined silver" is silver cleaned by fire from what does not belong in it.
"Purified sevenfold" means purified completely and thoroughly.
David contrasts human speech with the perfect truth of God's words.
Verse 8
"You, Lord, will guard them; You will protect him from this generation forever."
"Guard" and "protect" speak of God's keeping care.
The verse expresses trust that the Lord will preserve those who need His protection and will not abandon them to a corrupt generation.
Verse 9
"The wicked walk all around when vileness is exalted among human beings."
"Vileness" means what is low, shameful, and morally worthless.
When such things are praised, wickedness spreads more easily.
The psalm ends with a sober picture, but the pure words of the Lord already give a stronger foundation.
