Psalm 13 is a short but deeply powerful psalm of David. It begins with pain that feels endless: “How long?” David speaks from a place of waiting, sorrow, inner struggle, and the fear that his enemies may rejoice over his fall.
Yet the psalm does not remain in darkness. In only a few verses, David moves from anguish to prayer, from prayer to trust, and from trust to song. The turning point of this musical setting is the verse:
“But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness;
my heart will rejoice in Your salvation.”
The Hebrew word “chesed” in “Your lovingkindness” is more than ordinary kindness. It points to God’s faithful mercy, His covenant love, and the goodness on which David chooses to rely even before the rescue is visible.
This psalm speaks to anyone who has prayed while still waiting, trusted while still hurting, and held on to God’s mercy when the answer had not yet appeared.
This chapter is part of the larger journey of the project: with God’s help, to set the entire Book of Psalms to music in a Jewish, emotional, uplifting musical line.
