"I Have Kept the Ways of the LORD"

Psalm 18 is King David's great song of thanksgiving to the LORD, after being saved from all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.

In Part 2, David describes God's salvation through powerful images of light, clouds, thunder, lightning, water, and fire — showing how great and mighty the LORD's deliverance truly is.

Then David declares:

"For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and I have not wickedly departed from my God."

David strives to walk in the LORD's ways and never abandon his God.

This psalm teaches us: even in fear and pressure, hold to the straight path, call out to the LORD, and trust that He can bring us out of distress into an open place.

This psalm is part of the great journey of this project: to set, with God's help, the entire Book of Psalms to music — in diverse, moving, deeply Jewish musical voice.
