"For Who Is God but the LORD?"

Psalm 18 is King David's great song of thanksgiving to the LORD, after being saved from all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.

In Part 3, David continues his song with deep faith and trust. He describes how the LORD is the only rock, the true hero, who gives him strength, speed, and the power to face every enemy.

At the heart of this section stands the chorus — the soul of the song:

"For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?"

There is no other God. There is no rock like the LORD. He alone is truth. He alone is the shield.

This psalm teaches us: faith in the LORD is a real force. He lights the darkness, strengthens the hands, and enables a person to cross what seems impossible.

This psalm is part of the great journey of this project: to set, with God's help, the entire Book of Psalms to music — in diverse, moving, deeply Jewish musical voice.
