Psalm 42 opens the second book within the Book of Psalms. It is a song of deep longing for God, but in this musical version the longing becomes movement, clapping, joy, and a living hope.
Central line:
"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?"
The psalm begins with the image of a deer longing for streams of water. This image describes a soul that is not simply sad, but alive with desire for God. Even tears, distance, and the painful question “Where is your God?” do not end the song. They become a path back toward the House of God, toward song, thanksgiving, and a celebrating crowd.
This chapter is part of the journey to compose, with God’s help, the entire Book of Psalms in one emotional, Jewish, uplifting musical line.
