For Not by Their Sword Did They Inherit the Land

Psalm 44 opens as a teaching song of the sons of Korah. It looks back to the stories the fathers told their children: how God acted in the days of old, how He planted His people, and how victory came not from weapons, strength, or human power, but from God's right hand, His arm, and the light of His face.

"For not by their sword did they inherit the land, and their arm did not save them; but Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them."
