All This Has Come Upon Us, Yet We Have Not Forgotten You

Psalm 44 is a psalm of the sons of Korah, a psalm of memory, pain, and faith. After the first part remembered the wonders God performed for our fathers, this second part enters a painful place: Israel feels rejected, ashamed, scattered among the nations, and mocked by enemies.

Yet from that low place comes the central line of the song:

"All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You, and we have not been false to Your covenant."

This is faith under pressure: not faith only when life is easy, but faith that remains when reality is heavy, painful, and confusing.
