About This Psalm

Part 3 of Psalm 66 closes the chapter with a beautiful turn: from the great public praise of all the earth to a quieter, more personal testimony. In the earlier parts, all the earth was called to sing to God, and the hard passage through fire and water was remembered, from which the people were brought out into abundance. Here the voice changes — the single person turns inward. He brings his choice offerings, invites all who fear God to come and hear what was done for his soul, examines his own heart, and knows with certainty that his prayer was heard. The chapter ends with a blessing — the personal whisper of one heart that has been saved.

The central verse of the chapter, chosen as the title of the song, is:

"Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what He has done for my soul."

This is a call to share. The one who was saved does not keep the deliverance to himself, but invites all who fear God to come and listen. "Come and hear" — draw near and listen. "I will tell" — I want to recount. And "what He has done for my soul" — not only what happened outside, but what unfolded within. Gratitude becomes testimony, and testimony becomes a song to which all are invited.
