In Psalm 24, King David describes the greatness of the Creator of the world, to whom the earth and all it contains belong. He asks, "Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?" and answers that only those with clean hands and a pure heart are worthy to stand in His holy place. The psalm ends with a dramatic and festive call to the gates of Jerusalem to open before the "King of glory."
One of the central verses of the psalm is: "Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in." This is a verse of strength, victory, and majesty, calling the gates of the world to open and welcome the glory of the Lord.
This song is part of the larger journey of the project: with God's help, to compose and sing the entire Book of Psalms in a diverse, emotional, Jewish, and uplifting musical language.
