About This Psalm

Psalm 25 is a psalm of David written in the order of the Hebrew alphabet: each verse begins with the next letter, from the first letter all the way to the last. Yet beneath that neat order beats one of the most personal prayers in the entire book: a soul lifting itself to God, asking to be taught the right way, longing to be forgiven, and leaning on trust alone. There is no enemy to defeat here and no victory song, only a person turning inward and upward, placing his whole life in God's hands. This first part moves through trust, the plea for guidance, the memory of God's ancient mercy, and the tender request that the failures of youth be remembered no more.

The central verse, chosen as the title of this song, is:

"Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for the sake of Your goodness, O Lord."

David does not deny his past. He brings it honestly before God and asks for one thing: that he be remembered through the lens of mercy rather than judgment. It is the prayer of anyone who carries old regrets and still dares to hope. Not erasing the past by pretending, but trusting that God's kindness is greater than every failure.

This song is part of the larger journey of the project: with God's help, to compose and sing the entire Book of Psalms in a diverse, emotional, Jewish, and uplifting musical language.
