You Have Put Joy in My Heart

Psalm 4 is a psalm of prayer, inner struggle, trust, and quiet peace. King David begins by calling to God from distress, asking for mercy and for his prayer to be heard.

The central verse of the song is:

"You Have Put Joy in My Heart."

This chapter moves from pressure to confidence, from confusion to light, and from the noise of many voices to the calm of trusting in the Lord. It ends with one of the most peaceful lines in Psalms:

"In peace, I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell securely."

This chapter is part of the larger journey of this project: to compose, with God’s help, the entire Book of Psalms in one emotional, Jewish, uplifting musical line.
