Rain in Abundance, O God

Part 2 of Psalm 68 is one of the richest passages in the Book of Psalms — a song of abundance, victory, and choice. It opens with the image of a generous rain: "Rain in abundance, O God, You shed abroad" — God pours out a free, bountiful rain upon His inheritance, reviving a weary land. From there it moves to His care for the poor, the good news of victory over kings, and a surprising choice: of all the great, towering mountains, God desires the humble one for His dwelling.

The central verse of this part, chosen as the song's name, is:

"Rain in abundance, O God, You shed abroad; You restored Your inheritance as it languished."

This is a picture of abundance and tenderness — a rain that is not duty but a free, overflowing gift, poured upon His inheritance. And when that inheritance was weary and dry, He restored it anew. Good descending from above, freely, exactly upon the one who needs it.
