Until I Went Into the Sanctuary of God

The third part of Psalm 73 is the resolution of the whole psalm. After the doubt and the pain comes clarity: the success of the wicked is a dream that melts at waking, while God holds His believer by the right hand, guides him with His counsel, and receives him with honor. From here bursts the great declaration of the psalm: not wealth and not success — nearness to God is the good.

The verse that carries the song's name, and the summit of the psalm:

"But it is good for me to draw near to God"

After the whole journey, Asaph states the answer in the simplest words: my good is to be close to God. That is the purpose; everything else passes.

This psalm, too, is part of the project's great journey: to compose, with God's help, the entire Book of Psalms in diverse, emotional, Jewish and uplifting musical language.
